نائب رئيس الولايات المتحدة (VPOTUS)، هو ثاني أرفع منصب حكومي، تأسس بموجب الدستور الأمريكي.^[1] ^[2] نائب الرئيس، ورئيس الولايات المتحدة، يختارهم الشعب بالانتخاب غير المباشر عن طريق الهيئة الانتخابية لفترة مدتها أربع سنوات.^[3] نائب الرئيس هو أول شخص في خط الخلافة الرئاسية، ويتقلد الرئاسة في حالة وفاة، استقالة، أو الإطاحة بالرئيس.^[4]

مهام نائب الرئيس

يحد الدستور من السلطات الرسمية ودور نائب الرئيس ليصبح رئيساً، يجب على الرئيس الرئيس أن يصبح غير قادراً على الخدمة، في تعزيز للتعبير الشهير "لا يبعده عن الرئاسة سوى ضربة قلب"، وليكون المسئول الذي يترأس مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي.

وحسب الدستور يُمنح نائب الرئيس عضوية مجلس الأمن القومي ومجلس حكام معهد سميثسونيان.^[5]^[6]
