تأسست الكلية عام 1908.[2] أسستها في البداية كلية الإنسانيات، ونالت وضع الاستقلال عام 1910، لتصبح وحدة ادارية منفصلة عام 1913. كان أول عميد لها المؤرخ إدوين فرنسيس گاي (1867–1946).[3] كان الهدف منها إنشاء مؤسسة للتعليم العالي توفر درجة ماجستير الفنون في العلوم الإنسانية، مع التخصص في الأعمال.
