أرگونوط (حيوان)

الآرْگونُوط حيوان بحري، من نفس فصيلة الأخطبوط والحبار. ويعيش على سطح بحار العالم الدافئة، ويتغذى بالأسماك الصغيرة. وهو يسبح هنا وهناك بدفعه لدُفقة من الماء، من خلال سيفون (ممتص أو سكابة)، وهو عضو على هيئة أنبوب يوجد تحت رأسه. يصل طول أنثى الآرغونوط إلى 15سم. ويصغرها الذكر بكثير ونادرًا ما ينمو لأطول من 5,2سم.

الآرغونوط، مثله مثل الأخطبوط، له ثمانية أذرع. اثنتان من ذراعي أنثى الآرغونوط على شكل مروحة. وعندما يتم ضمهما سويًا، تقومان تدريجيًا بتشكيل غلاف صلب، يشبه الورق، يحمي البيض الصغير. ويأتي اسم الورق البحري الذي يطلق دائمًا على هذا الحيوان من هذا الغلاف الرقيق. ويتم طرح الغلاف بعيدًا بعد أن يفقس البيض. ولايصنع الذكر أي غلاف.

اعتقد الناس ذات يوم أن الآرْغونوط يبحر في الماء باستخدام ذراعيه المتضخِّمتين كشراعين.

وسمي هذا الحيوان بهذا الاسم بعد أن أطلقه عليه البحارة الذين كانوا على ظهر الآرغو السفينة التي وصفت في الأسطورة اليونانية الفروة الذهبية.
