أحمد الجلاد.

أحمد الجلاد (Ahmad Al-Jallad، و. 1985)، هو عالم لغوي، وعالم نقوش، ومؤرخ لغوي أمريكي. ومن بين المجالات التي أسهم فيها الدراسات القرآنية وتاريخ اللغة العربية، بما في ذلك العمل الحديث الذي قام به حول النقوش العربية ما قبل الإسلام بالصفائية والعربية العتيقة. وهو حالياً أستاذ كرسي صوفيا في الدراسات العربية بجامعة ولاية أوهايو، في قسم لغات وثقافات الشرق الأدنى وجنوب آسيا.[1] قام الجلاد بفك رمز اللهجة الظفارية العُمانية.[2][3][4] هو حائز جائزة گراتاما الهولندية للعلوم 2017.[5]

سيرته

وُلد الجلاد في سالت ليك سيتي عام 1985 وهو من أصول أردنية من جهة الأب. خلال دراسته الجامعية، التحق بجامعة جنوب فلوريدا. ثم التحق بجامعة هارڤرد لدراسة الدكتوراه في فقه اللغة السامية، وحصل على درجة الدكتوراه عام 2012. وكان من بين أساتذته خلال دراسته مايكل مكدونالد من جامعة أكسفورد، وجون هوهنرگارد من جامعة هارڤرد. ومن أوائل إنجازات الجلاد إعادة بناء دائرة بروج عربية غير معروفة سابقاً من الجزيرة العربية قبل الإسلام. ويُعتبر حالياً من أبرز الخبراء في التاريخ المبكر للغة العربية وكتابتها، ويساهم في توجيه البعثات الاستكشافية الأثرية في جميع أنحاء الشرق الأوسط.[6]

ساهم الجلاد في فك رموز وتفسير نقوش الجزيرة العربية القديمة، وخاصة الصفائية، الثمودية، والظفارية، وعلى نطاق أوسع في تاريخ اللغة العربية ومكانتها ضمن عائلة اللغات السامية.[7] اكتشف الجلاد ودرس عدداً من النصوص الهامة لتاريخ وثقافة الجزيرة العربية قبل الإسلام، العرب، وخلفية الإسلام.[8][9] كما أنه رائد في توثيق ودراسة نقوش العربية العتيقة.[10][11] إلى جانب كارولينا ياورسكا، نشر أول قاموس شامل للخط الصفائي.[12] وهو المدير العلمي ومدير مشروع قاعدة بيانات OCIANA لنقوش شمال شبه الجزيرة العربية القديمة.
