وليام شيرر

وليام لورنس شيرر William Lawrence Shirer ‏(23 فبراير 1904 – 28 ديسمبر 1993) كان صحفياً أمريكياً ومراسل حربي. وقد كتب The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich، الذي كان تاريخ ألمانيا النازية والذي قرأه كثيرون ورجع إليه الكثير من الأعمال البحثية لأكثر من خمسين عاماً. كان شيرر في الأصل مراسلاً أجنبياً لصحيفة شيكاغو تريبيون و International News Service، فكان أول مراسل يستأجره إدوارد مورو في ما سيصبح فريق إذاعة CBS من الصحفيين الذي عُرفوا بلقب "صبيان مورو". وأصبح معروفاً ببثه من برلين، من صعود الديكتاتورية النازية إلى أول سني الحرب العالمية الثانية (1940). مع مورو، نظّم شيرر أول بث لأخبار العالم، وهي الصيغة التي مازالت متبَعة في نشرات الأخبار.

Shirer in Compiegne, France, reporting on the signing of the armistice. The building in the background enshrines the railcar in which Marshal Foch accepted the German request for an armistice ending World War I on November 11, 1918. Hitler had the railcar removed from the building for the signing of the June 22, 1940 armistice.
