أُنتجت سلسلة گراند ثفت أوتو (GTA) من قبل شركة ألعاب إسكوتلندية تدعى DMA وتعرف حالياً بإسم روكستار نورث، في العام 1998. وتتضمن سبعة إصدارات مختلفة وإصدارين إضافيين من اللعبة الأصلية. ومنذ إصدار غراند ثفت آتو 3 أصبحت هذه السلسلة تصنف الأفضل مبيعاً عند طرح إصدارات جديدة منها. وتحظى هذه السلسلة بشعبية بالغة لدى محبي ألعاب الكومبيوتر بسبب قبول العديد من نجوم هوليوود أداء شخصيات هذه اللعبة أمثال سامويل إل جاكسون، مايكل مادسن، راي ليوتا، جيمس وودس، جو بانتوليانو، روبرت لوگيا أضف إلى ذلك الأداء المميز لـسكوت ماسلن في GTA2.
