گوادلكانال

جوادالكانال (بالإنجليزية: Guadalcanal) هي جزيرة مساحتها 2510 ميل مربع (6500 كيلومتر مربع) تقع في المحيط الهادي، تقع في بحر المرجان شرقي الحافة الجنوبية لغينيا الجديدة. وهي أكبر جزر مجموعة في جزر سليمان. أصبحت الجزيرة مشهد حملة گوادلكانال المهمة أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية. الجزيرة، التي بشكل رئيسي تعتبر غابة، تحتوي العاصمة الوطنية لجزر سليمان، هونيارا، وبها 109,382 نسمة (1999).

 التاريخ

احتلت القوات اليابانية غوادالكنال في بداية الحرب العالمية الثانية، وكانت مسرحًا لقتال شديد في عامي 1942 و 1943، عندما دخلتها قوات الولايات المتحدة، وحررتها من الاحتلال الياباني.

 السطح والسكان

جوادالكانال هي جزيرة جبلية. ومعظم الجزء الشمالي للجزيرة مهدب بشكل حاد بواسطة الانحدار المرتفع للشقوق المرجانية. وترتفع الجبال في هذه الجزيرة إلى علو 2,400م. أما الساحل الجنوبي يعرف بساحل الطقس. المطر هناك كثيف جداً، لذلك يعرف بهذا الاسم. جوادالكانال مملوءة بالبعوض، والملاريا هو مرض مستوطن بها. أغلب السكان موجودون على طول الساحل الشمالي.

 النقل

هو عن طريق الساحل الشمالي الذي يمتد على أغلب طول الجزيرة. الوصول إلى ساحل الطقس يكون مشياً على الأقدام أو عن طريق المركب أو المروحية. مطار هونيارا الدولي، وهو مطار جزر سليمان الرئيسي، يقع شرق هونيارا. كان يعرف سابقاً بحقل هيندرسن وبني في 1942.
