ريتشارد هاكلويت

ريتشارد هاكلويت Richard Hakluyt (و. 1552؟ - 1616م). رجل دين مسيحي وجغرافي بريطاني، يحتوي كتابه رحلات واكتشافات الأمة الإنجليزية (1589)، على وصف شهود عيان ووثائق أخرى عن أكثر من 200 رحلة. انحدرت عائلة هاكلويت من منطقة هرفورد و ووستر في إنجلترا. تعلم في مدرسة وستمنستر في لندن، وفي جامعة أكسفورد. كان يجمع الوثائق التجارية. وكان ما كتبه عن الاكتشافات الأمريكية (1582م)، ســببًا في تعيينه قســيـسًا يتبع الســفير الإنجليزي في فرنسا (1583 - 1586م). أصبــح رئيــس الشــمامسة في كنيسة وســتمنستر عام 1602م. نشر عام 1609م ترجمته لكتاب المستكشف البرتغالي هرناندو دي سوتو عن رحلاته.
