 حياته

بعد عمله المبكر كعازف كمان ماهر اتجه سفندسن للتأليف الموسيقي. موسيقاه التي تعكس اجادة طبيعية للقوالب الكبرى التقليدية تكمل اعمال صديقه الجيد ومواطنه جريج. مع ذلك كان ايضا مطلوب كقائد اوركسترال حتى انه الف القليل جدا من الاعمال التي لها اي اهمية بعد الانتقال الى كوبنهاجن عام 1883. رغم ان اسلوبه رومانسي فانه يحتوي على عناصر من الموسيقى الشعبية النرويجية. فقط اثنين من سمفونياته بقت وعام 1882 مخطوطة الثالثة احترقت في نوبة غضب وغيرة من زوجته الامريكية التي انفصل عنها لاحقا.
