مارك سگان

مارك سـِگان Marc Seguin (و. 20 أبريل 1786 - ت. 24 فبراير 1875) مهندس فرنسي قام بإختراع الجسر المعلق بواسطة الكابلات. مهندس فرنسي اخترع الجسور المعلقة بكابلات وغلاية المحرك البخاري الأنبوبية. وقد تطور اهتمام سيگان (ابن أخت جوزيف مونگولفييه، رائد الطيران بالبالون) منذ عمر مبكر بالماكينات. وبحلول 1822، كان يدرس قوة كابلات الأسلاك. مع شقيقه كامي، درس مبادئ الجسور المعلقة، التي كانت تُبنى في ذلك الوقت بكابلات من الجنازير. وفي 1824، بنيا جسراً معلقاً من كابلات مكونة من ضفائر أسلاك متوازية على نهر الرون في تورنو، وكان أول جسر من نوعه، وسرعان ما ظهرت نسخ منه حول العالم. كما حسّن سيگان كفاءة القاطرات باختراعه الغلاية متعددة الأنابيب النارية، بدلاً من غلاية أنبوب الماء المستخدمة في المحركات البخارية قبل ذلك. وقد تعاون الشقيقان في بناء أول سكة حديدية فرنسية (1824-33).
