The first, the second, and the third parameters:

• first parameter — system link
• second parameter — distance in light-years (ly)
• third parameter — error of distance in light-years (ly)

Other (optional) parameters:

• |h — top error of distance in light-years (ly)
• |l — bottom error of distance in light-years (ly)
• |n — displayed system name (if absents, displayed system name coincides with system link)
• |b= — makes displayed name bold, if presents
• |i= — makes all text within this template italic, if presents
• |r= — if presents, data not seen in articles (however, seen in other namespaces, such as Template:, User: etc.)
• |s — number of stars
• |slist — list of stars
• |bd — number of brown dwarfs
• |bdlist — list of brown dwarfs
• |p — number of planets
• |plist — list of planets
• |‡= — adds double dagger (‡), if presents
