He was Korean, but he represented Japan since Korea was part of the Empire of Japan. The Japanese pronunciation of his name is: Kitei Son. The race started at 3 p.m. on 9 August 1936. He ran the 42.195 kilometers course in 2:29:19.2, breaking the Olympic record. Sohn came in first place and won a gold medal.
