برناردينو دى ساهاگون

برناردينو دى ساهاگون (Bernardino de Sahagún ؛ النطق الإسپاني: [beɾnaɾˈðino ðe saaˈɣun]; c. 1499 – 5 February 1590) was a Franciscan friar, missionary priest and pioneering ethnographer who participated in the Catholic evangelization of colonial New Spain (now Mexico). Born in Sahagún, Spain, in 1499, he journeyed to New Spain in 1529. He learned Nahuatl and spent more than 50 years in the study of Aztec beliefs, culture and history. Though he was primarily devoted to his missionary task, his extraordinary work documenting indigenous worldview and culture has earned him the title as “the first anthropologist." He also contributed to the description of the Aztec language Nahuatl. He translated the Psalms, the Gospels, and a catechism into Nahuatl.

أنقذ ساهاگون ومساعدوه الشبان في كتاب التاريخ العام لإسبانيا الجديدة الذي يتألف من إثني عشر مجلدة أصوات الهنود القديمة ومهرجاناتهم وطقوسهم وآلهتهم وطريقتهم في حساب مرور الأعوام والنجوم وأساطيرهم وقصائدهم وطبهم وحكاياتهم عن العصور الغابرة وعن الغزو الأوروبي . إن التاريخ يغني في هذا العمل الأول العظيم للأنثروبولوجيا الأميركية. أمر الملك فيليب الثاني منذ ستة أعوام بالإستيلاء على هذه المخطوطات المحلية التي ترجمها ساهاگون ونسخها كي لايبقى لها أي أثر. أين انتهت هذه الكتب التي قيل إنها تخلد وتنشر عبادة الأوثان ؛ لاأحد يعرف . لم يستجب مجلس الآندیز لتوسلات المؤلفين والناسخين اليائسة. ما الذي فعله الملك بأربعين عاما من حياة ساهاگون وبقرون عديدة من حياة المكسيك. يقولون في مدريد إن الصفحات استخدمت لتعليب التوابل . لايستسلم العجوز « ساهاغن » . في سن الثمانين . يتشبث ببعض الأوراق التي أنقذت من الكارثة ويملي على طلابه في تلاتيلولكو السطور الأولى من عمل جدید سیدعى فن الكهانة فيما بعد سيذهب ليعد تقویم مكسيكية كام ؟. حين ينهي التقويم يبدأ بتأليف قاموس ناهواتلي - إسباني لاتيني . وبعد القاموس ... في الخارج تعوي الكلاب خائفة من المطر
