تاريخ سياسي

التاريخ السياسي هو فرع من فروع التاريخ العام. هو وإن اُختص بالأحداث السياسية فهذا لا ينفي عنه تداخله مع الفروع الأخرى كالتاريخ الاجتماعي والاقتصادي وحتى العسكري. وبشكل عام يرصد التاريخ السياسي الأفكار القومية للدولة، الثورات والحركات الفكرية السياسية وقادتها، أو التحالفات الداخلية للدولة الواحدة المبنية على العرق (القبلية) أو اللغة أو العقيدة، الظروف التي أدت إلى اتخاذ قرارات ما. مع وجود خلاف في أسبقية بين فرعين وهما التاريخ الاجتماعي والتاريخ السياسي أيهما أدى إلى الآخر.
