ولد رايت كان في ريتشموند ، شمال يوركشاير في عائلة مختلطة النسب من الأنجلو الايرلندي و السويدي . درس الطب في جامعة دبلن. في القرن 19 ، وعمل رايت مع القوات المسلحة البريطانية لتطوير لقاحات وتعزيز التحصين.
